Introducing the 2023 Mazda CX-50, a crossover SUV built for the adventurer in you and loaded with the comfort and convenience features you expect from Mazda. The CX-50 adds power and performance to the package. Its turbocharged engine and the all-wheel-drive system can handle wintry New England weather and your summer road trips into the White Mountains. If you stick around town, the CX-50 has the stylish good looks to turn heads from Back Bay to the North End. Let's take a closer look at what makes the CX-50 such a great SUV.

As we said, the 2023 Mazda CX-50 turns heads no matter where it goes. The CX-50's wide stance, elevated ground clearance, and low roofline give it an athletic posture that looks ready to pounce. The angular front fascia features a honeycomb grille framed by LED headlights. Air intakes slung low and wide complete its aggressive stare.

The carved hood speaks to the muscle beneath it. A dancer's profile of soft curves along the sides reflects light as flared fenders flex taut. Rolling on stylish 20-inch alloy wheels, the CX-50 draws the eye on and off the road. A power rear liftgate with an integrated rear spoiler and LED combination taillights complete the signature rear fascia. Mazda thoughtfully included a moonroof to let in all the sunlight and summer air on your next adventure.

You have seven exterior colors to choose from that invoke the great outdoors. Wind Chill Pearl reminds you of a blanket of fresh snow, while Ingot Blue Metallic calls to mind the summer days watching the ocean from the M Street Beach. The new Zircon Sand Metallic color looks right at home among those Cape Cod dunes.

Interior Comfort and Convenience

Nine trims with seating for up to five people offer various levels of comfort and convenience. The base trim comes with premium cloth upholstery, while the middle tiers feature half-trimmed leather seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and a shift knob. Moving to the upper echelon models, you'll find full leather seating with heating and ventilating capability. Unique accent stitching provides signature style to the top trims, while a heated steering wheel adds comfort.

Every CX-50 comes standard with a 10.25-inch touch-screen display that powers your infotainment system. You'll have Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth technology pre-installed to enhance your driving experience. You can access your classic music files, stream your favorite podcasts, make calls, send texts, and more hands-free. Select models come with a free trial subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio.

The lower trims come with an eight-speaker audio system with HD radio, and the higher models feature a 12-speaker premium audio system from Bose. The top tier 2.5 Turbo Premium Plus comes standard with a wireless charging pad, but every trim features multiple USB ports for input and charging in both rows.

You have 314 cubic feet of cargo space behind the back seat. The 60/40 split-folding rear seat offers multiple seating and cargo configurations. When you fold the back seat flat, it opens up 56.3 cubic feet of storage area.

Performance

Mazda uses its SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine in the lower trims. They pair this engine with an automatic transmission tuned for smooth shifting and power-on-demand. As a result, this powertrain produces 187 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque and can tow up to 2,000 pounds.

Upper trim levels come with the SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine paired with the same transmission. This turbocharged version puts out an impressive 250 horsepower and 320 lb-ft of torque and tows 3,500 pounds when properly equipped.

Every trim comes standard with i-ACTIV AWD, an all-wheel-drive system that intelligently delivers power to the wheels with the most grip. This torque distribution helps keep your CX-50 moving over the icy North End streets in winter and through the sandy beaches during summer. In addition, sport and Off-Road drive modes let you tune your steering, throttle, and suspension to the road surfaces.

Driver-Assist Systems

Your Mazda CX-50 comes equipped with the latest driver-assist technologies, such as an adaptive front lighting system. This system adjusts the direction of your headlights as you enter and leave turns, allowing you to see better on those New England back roads. In addition, Mazda adds an active driving display that projects critical driving data to the windshield before you. The active driving display keeps your eyes focused where they belong, on the road ahead, while giving you the vital information you need when you need it.

A 360-degree monitor provides multiple views around your CX-50, including one from above. Other active systems include a front and rear drive detection system. These systems scan the road ahead and behind to either side for obstacles and approaching vehicles. You'll receive alerts when the systems detect a possible collision. If you react slowly, your CX-50 knows to apply the brakes to help mitigate a potential accident.

Mazda's blind spot monitoring system uses sensors to scan your blind spots and alert you when vehicles enter them. If you attempt a lane change with a car in your blind spot with your turn signal activated, your CX-50 will use corrective steering to keep you in your lane to avoid a collision.

Lane departure warning and lane-keep assist systems use similar tech to help keep you centered in your lane. These systems track you when you travel within marked lanes, and if they detect an unintentional drift, they provide subtle steering input to return you to your lane.

Mazda gives you its radar cruise control system that tracks the car in front of you. The radar cruise control system slows your CX-50 down automatically as that car slows. Then, your CX-50 returns to your original speed when the way forward clears. You can set the speed and following distance for optimal efficiency.
